Sebastian Baez v Marcos Giron Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Baez Winless in Three Matches

Sebastian Baez last won earlier this month in Estoril when he faced Pedro Cachin and since then the Argentine played three matches and lost all of them. He actually didn’t win a single set in all of those matches which is a bit unusual as he’s generally a really great clay player.

Baez won’t like Madrid though as the event doesn’t really suit his style of play. He would prefer a slower type of court but he’s lucky with the draw because he’s not facing a player that is known for his clay prowess.

There will be ways for Baez to win this match and it will mostly come down to his forehand. He will need to be really sharp from the baseline and hit the ball really well because his serve won’t create too many easy points for himself.

His opponent is very quick around the court so he will need to be quite crafty as well. They never played so there will be some chess played during the match as well. This is the first time Baez is also playing in Madrid so that doesn’t help him either.

Giron Beats Borges

Marcos Giron is now known as a great clay tennis player but he was really good in the first round taking down Nuno Borges in two sets. His opponent in that match was the player with more clay experience but he outsmarted him from start to finish.

Giron is capable of playing very good tennis and moves very well around the court but there isn’t too much power in his play. You can outhit him, especially in conditions like these where the ball flies rather well.

His speed is something he can utilize well to track down a lot of balls and Borges struggled to keep consistency from the baseline. Giron could use a similar gameplan against Baez as well because the Argentine is prone to overhit as well.

The score this year is 12-10 for Giron with clay being 4-2. He’s up to four wins already and that shows improvement following only 3 wins in 12 matches last year. He’ll have a chance in this one but he’ll need to be as sharp as he was against Borges.

Baez v Giron Prediction and Tip

I think Baez carries more power in his groundstrokes which is why I will back him but Giron could easily take this one. A solid balanced could be an over because I don’t think either will cruise easily.
