Swiatek Eases Past Pera

It was hardly any different a result from her previous win as Swiatek raced away to an easy victory over Bernarda Pera in the third round.

Swiatek registered her sixth successive win on clay for the season by defeating Pera 6-3, 6-2, exactly the same scoreline as her previous win over Julia Grabher.

On court for an hour and a quarter, Swiatek did not have the quickest of starts as she failed to break Pera despite getting three break-points in the second game and then lost her own serve in the third.

That, however, was the last time Swiatek faced a break-point in the match while adding 10 more of those on Pera’s serve. She broke the American four times in total, including in the very first game of the second set as she cashed in on her opponent’s mistakes with ease.

She will have a tougher opponent in the form of Alexandrova, at least on paper, with the Russian having reached the semifinal of this event last year.

Alexandrova Surprises Qinwen

Qinwen Zheng has been one of the emerging players of the season on the women’s circuit and she was a 7/10 favourite coming into her third round match against Alexandrova.

A fighting 56 minutes later, Alexandrova had dropped the first set despite having had the chance to serve it out at 5-4.

Fortunately for Alexandrova, neither those odds – which shortened considerably for Qinwen after the first set – and nor that loss of the first set seemed to have deterred her.

She fought back with an early break in the second set, saved a couple of break-points in the process before levelling things out. And from there, at 2-2 in the deciding set, Alexandrova pounced on her opponent’s serve again breaking her to 15 and 30 respectively before serving out the match.

A quarterfinalist at the Charleston Open, this was Alexandrova’s second time this year she had won back to back matches on clay. Can she now make things difficult for the world number one?

Swiatek v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

Swiatek should have no real difficulties and a straight-set win for looks the most likely result – tough to bet against it.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win in straight sets
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match
