Daniil Medvedev v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head
At the highest level there have been two previous meetings between these two and it’s 1-1 on head to head. Karatsev won on the clay of Rome in 2021 while Medvedev defeated his opponent in Mallorca last year.

Medvedev Scrapes Past Shevchenko
After making it to the quarterfinal of the Monte-Carlo Masters, Medvedev has now back to back matches in Madrid to reach the round of 16 for the first time ever in Madrid.
And it took him two hours and 42 minutes to overcome fellow Russian Alexander Shevchenko to make it to the fourth round.
After getting broken twice in the first set and easily losing it, Medvedev came back strongly in the second to race to a 5-0 lead. He wrapped it up soon after to shift the momentum in his favour.
Or so it seemed anyway. Twice, however, in the third set, Medvedev fell a break behind against Shevchenko, only to break right back and level the proceedings. Medvedev then saved three break-points in the eighth game, broke Shevchenko in the 11th before converting his second match-point in the 12th to squeak through.
Can he overturn his poor record against Karatsev?
Karatsev on a Stunning Run
Since making it to the second round of the qualifiers of this tournament, Karatsev has been facing opponents who have all gone into their match against him as favourites. And he has been beating them all.
It started with a 6-4, 6-2 rout of Jan-Lennard Struff in the qualifiers, before Karatsev overcame Laslo Djere and Botic van de Zandschup in the first two rounds of the competition. This was despite Karatsev starting out as a 8/5, 13/10 and 5/3 underdog in each one of them.
And then as he went into his third round match against Alex de Minaur at 7/5 odds and saw his opponent level the match in the second set, it looked like his fairy tale was ending. Not quite.
Karatsev recovered to clinch the encounter 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and close out his fourth round berth.
He will think he has a chance against Medvedev on clay.
Medvedev v Karatsev Prediction and Tip
Medvedev is a favourite but he could be tested by a player who has done his bit in this tournament to deserve some respect. We think this could go into a third set too.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Medvedev to win
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
