Carlos Alcaraz v Alexander Zverev Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Zverev leads 3-1 on head to head. This includes two matches on clay which have been shared by the two of them.

Both came in 2022 – one at Madrid where Alcaraz won and another at the French Open where Zverev clinched a fighting, four-setter.

Alcaraz Doesn’t Face a Lot of Problems against Dimitrov

While Grigor Dimitrov did put up a bit of a fight in the second set of his third round match against Alcaraz, the Spaniard found a way to carve out a straight-set win.

Alcaraz was on court for an hour and 32 minutes in which he won 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the fourth round of a tournament he had won last season.

A quick start to the match saw Alcaraz race away to a 2-0 lead and he broke Dimitrov yet again in the seventh game to wrap it up. Dimitrov served a lot better to kick-start the second set as he grabbed a 3-2 lead and then shocked the fans with a break of serve in the sixth game.

The world number two stormed back to break Dimitrov to love and then repeated the dose in the 11th game before serving it out in the very next game.

This follows a hard-fought second round win over Emil Ruusuvuori for the defending champion. Can he continue that streak at Madrid when he faces the former US Open runner-up?

Zverev Routs Grenier

In a match that got over before the late seat-takers had a chance to settle in, Zverev was on court for 57 minutes against Hugo Grenier in his third round. He won 6-1, 6-0 to register his most convincing win since his return to the circuit following his fitness issues last year.

Zverev broke in the very first game and Grenier’s only win came in the third game of the opening set before the German raced away to 10 games in a row.

What was rather stunning to watch was Zverev got 86% of his first serves in, which meant he lost just two points on his second serve and a total of five points on his serve. On the other hand he allowed Grenier to win just three of his 21 second serve points.

The question now is whether Zverev take a lot of confidence from this win into what could potentially be one of the best matches of the competition.

Alcaraz v Zverev Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz will be the favourite but it might not be an easy grab. We think this could either go into the third set or might see a hard-fought couple of sets.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alcaraz to win: 1/5
  • Medium Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
