The 2023 Italian Open will be played in Rome, Italy, at the Foro Italico sports complex.

The Italian Open is a joint tennis tournament played in the same week on the ATP and WTA calendars. This year, the tournament will be played across two weeks with an increased player draw of 96 players.

The Italian Open is played on outdoor clay with 1000 ranking points on offer to the winning player.

What’s the 2023 Italian Open Schedule?

The 2023 Italian Open will kick off with qualifying on Monday, May  8, with 48 players competing in two rounds, vying for 12 main draw spots on both the men’s and women’s sections.

On Tuesday, May 9, the second round of qualifying will be completed and qualifiers will be placed in the main draw. On the same day, main draw action on the WTA side will begin with a few first-round matches.

Main draw action on the ATP side will commence on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Who is Playing at the 2023 Italian Open in Rome?

The 2023 Italian Open will feature a 96-player draw in both the men’s and women’s sections. Although the draw is yet to be released at the time of writing, the player list is now confirmed.

From the men’s side, 10-time champion Rafael Nadal is officially out of the reckoning as he has yet to recover from hip injury. But World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has committed to play and will be the top seed.

Carlos Alcaraz is set to mark his tournament debut after withdrawing from last year’s edition. Home favorite Jannik Sinner will play after returning to full fitness having pulled from last week’s Madrid Masters.

On the women’s side, defending champion Iga Swiatek leads the line. Having finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid, Swiatek cannot afford any more slip-ups with the Belarusian breathing down her neck in the WTA standings.

Ons Jabeur could withdraw after picking up a calf injury in Stuttgart.

Aside from that, the women are at full strength.

12 players will join from the qualifying draw on both tours. All five wild cards on the men’s side have gone to Italian players, while on the women’s it is eight home players led by former finalist Sara Errani.
