Sara Errani v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head

Pavlyuchenkova Finding Her Rhythm

Former world number 11 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is taking things slowly and steadily after coming from a long injury layoff.

She picked up a knee injury in 2022 that forced her to miss three of the four majors, ending the year early at 2-3.

The 31-year-old is ranked #506 at the moment and is set to compete in the 2023 Italian Open with a record of 5-7. Most recently, she participated in the Madrid Open, where she survived a three-set slogfest against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the opener before losing to Daria Kasatkina in round two.

Most of Pavlyuchenkova’s season has gone by in such early exits – understandably so as she looks to build momentum from scratch. Her sole highlight stands in the form of a quarterfinal showing in ITF Croissy-Beaubourg.

Errani in a Better Boat

Sara Errani will start as the home favourite in Rome on Tuesday. A runner-up here in 2014 and a semifinalist the year before, the 36-year-old Italian is well-experienced and has got some pedigree to back her play.

Impressively in the doubles circuit, she has 42 finals – which includes the three she picked up here in Rome.

In the last few years, however, Errani has fallen on tough times as she consistently finished outside the top 100. 2023 is turning out to be a revelation as she is now ranked #78 with a record of 16-11.

Her highlights – a runner-up feat in San Luis Challenger and the title run in ITF Arcadia.

On the WTA side of things, Sara has not made it past the opening rounds – including the Madrid Open, where she lost to Danka Kovinic after clearing the qualifiers.

Pavlyuchenkova v Errani Prediction and Tip

This is going to be an interesting match. Anastasia is not in the best of form, and Errani can very well take advantage of that. However, the Italian has seen her fair share of ups and downs herself which does give her opponent an opening to work with.

Given the experience of the two, we may be looking at a long affair.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
