Dusan Lajovic v Nuno Borges Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 32 year old Serb, and the Portuguese, six years his junior.

Lajovic Coming off Banja Luka Win
Lajovic is already an ATP tour victor this year, having become the inaugural winner of the Srpska Open in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
That was only the second senior title of his career, and his first since 2019, when he won in Umag, Croatia, the same year that he had his best run in a Masters’ event, reaching the final in Monte Carlo.
He has a surprisingly disappointing record in this tournament, though, with the only time that he has been beyond the first round in Rome being three years ago when he reached the third round stage.
Following his triumph in Bosnia, he travelled to Madrid, where he had a big win over Felix Augur-Aliassime in the second round.
He would have been disappointed, though, to lose his third round match to the German, Jan-Lennard Struff, who would go on to become a surprise finalist, beaten in three sets.

Borges Makes his Rome Debut
Borges is another player to have enjoyed success this year, although, in his case, it has been on the Challenger tour, where he has already won two titles, both on hard courts, one in Mexico and one in the USA.
That brought his title haul at that level to four in all, and he has also enjoyed success on the senior tour, winning the doubles on home soil in Estoril last year.
This is his first time in the main draw in Rome – in fact, he only made his Masters debut in Miami two months ago.
He lost on the first round on that occasion but did slightly better in Barcelona, before running into the virtually unstoppable force that is Carlos Alcaraz.
His first round debut in Madrid, though, ended in disappointing fashion, beaten in straight sets by the American Marcos Giron.
Lajovic v Borges Prediction and Tip
Lajovic will start the clear favourite, not only because of his greater experience at this level, but also because as a winner already on clay on the senior tour this year, he will be hoping for a decent run in this tournament.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Lajovic to win: 3/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
