Laslo Djere v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

Djere Falls in Cagliari Challenger Final

Laslo Djere’s clay-court momentum gathered pace in Cagliari this past week, playing in his first Challenger tournament since August. He picked up a couple of excellent wins over Thanasi Kokkinkais and Ben Shelton to reach the final.

There, he met Ugo Humbert, who played in the second-longest match in Challenger history during the week.

Djere took the first 6-4 playing aggressive, efficient tennis. And he came within a few games from a straight-sets win, but surprisingly he was totally gassed as the French lefty ran him wild once the match went the distance.

Still, it was a great response to his opening-round defeat in Madrid. He’s now 9-7 on clay in 2023 and could get to double-digit wins on the dirt before Roland Garros.

Djere is 2-3 in main draws at the Rome Masters, but he has a relatively harmless opener this week.

Fitness A Concern for Lestienne

Constant Lestienne has a paltry six wins in 2023. In his first full season on the ATP Tour, Lestienne has seen all the good work he put together last season dissipate.

He’s fallen from a career-high World No. 48 to outside the top 60. His slump can be attributed to his inability to keep his body in check.

Lestienne has retired/given a walkover three times already this season, most recently in Munich, where he retired while trailing 4-6, 0-1 to Dominic Thiem.

The nature of the injury in Germany’s capital was not disclosed, but it does appear that could be his foot, as he moved gingerly during the last few points of that match.

Djere v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

It would be a big shock if Djere doesn’t breeze through here. He is head and shoulders above Lestienne on clay and any chance the French lefty had of mustering a result here will be impeded by his recent injury.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Djere to win: 1/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Djere to win in straight sets: 1/2
