Anna Kalinskaya v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two including a couple on the ITF circuit and both have won two. On clay, it’s 2-1 in Yastremska’s favour.

Kalinskaya Has Begun Well on Clay

More known for her performances in hardcourt competitions, Kalinskaya has done rather well in the two clay court competitions she has played this season.

The Russian started her journey in the Charleston Open where she stunned Anhelina Kalinina, Alize Cornet and Victoria Azarenka, all of which came in straight sets. And while she suffered another fitness woe in her quarterfinal there against Ons Jabeur, Kalinskaya would have been rather pleased to have got there.

At the Madrid Open, Kalinskaya went one better.

She shocked Elena Rybakina in the second round before falling to Petra Martic in the third and as a result has been able to maintain her top 60 ranking.

Having never played in the main draw here and with Elise Mertens waiting for the winner in the second round, Kalinskaya will know she has a good chance of breaking into the top 50 if she can start well.

Qualifier Yastremska Had Made Reus Semifinal

It’s been a difficult last couple of seasons for Yastremska who has fallen from her peak ranking of 21st in the world to her current, outside the top 150.

Still, the good news for Yastremska is her appearance in the WTA 125 event in Reus last week saw her make the final four stage. Wins over Sara Sorribes Tormo, Anna Blinkova and Jil Teichmann aren’t something to be frowned up and she will feel chuffed about it.

Even more so because of the way she came through in the qualifiers, winning the only set in her match against Leolia Jeanjean and then routing Rebeka Masarova in the second.

It’s interesting to note that Yastremska has had a solid career on clay at the lower level of tennis too – winning three ITF titles. She followed it up with another victory in Strasbourg in 2019 after that.

Can she trouble Kalinskaya?

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
