Muchova Returned in Madrid after a Month

It’s been a memorable season overall for Muchova who had made the quarterfinal of the WTA Dubai and then followed it up with four successive victories at the Indian Wells Open as well.

That included victories over Yulia Putintseva, Victoria Azarenka and Marketa Vondrousova before Elena Rybakina got the better of her.

Muchova then made the third round at the Miami Open after starting out as a qualifier to climb back up to 52nd in the world – having hit a season low of 151st at one point this season.

She returned on clay to feature in Madrid two weeks ago and while Muchova overcame Anett Kontaveit in the first round, Irina Camelia Begu surprised her in the second. This was despite Muchova starting out a 9/20 favourite in the encounter.

Can she now shrug that showing off and go deep in this one on a surface she has usually struggled.

Rakhimova Hoping to Move Towards Career-Best Ranking

Having made the semifinal at the Bogota Open earlier this season, Rakhimova had then failed to qualify for the Madrid Open main draw. And it looked like the same was going to repeat here in Rome when she lost to Elena Gabriela Ruse in the second round of the qualifiers.

Fortunately for Rakhimova, she was able to make it to the first round following the withdrawal of Lin Zhu.

Rakhimova has been steadily hovering around the 90th to 120th ranking over three seasons now with a career-best ranking of 89th earlier this season giving her a first look at the 80s.

What she would now like is for a good, solid run deep into a WTA 1000 competition like Rome or even at the French Open that could help her get closer to the top 50.

Playing against someone who is coming into this match on the back of just one win on clay this season should give the Russian some hope.

Muchova v Rakhimova Prediction and Tip

Muchova is 3/20 to win this, which might not be the most accurate reading of the situation according to us. Sure, Muchova is a favourite but that sounds like a heavy discrepancy in how things are and we could see Rakhimova put up some fight here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 8/13
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Games Handicap Rakhimova +5.5: 5/6
