Kyle Edmund v Alexandre Muller Head to Head

Edmund and Muller have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Edmund Hasn’t Won a Main Draw Match Since August 2022

Injuries have obviously played a role but Edmund will be slightly concerned about his lack of results.

The last time he won a main draw match was at the Winston-Salem Open last season following which he was knocked out in the second round there and in the first round at the US Open.

He returned to the circuit this year and has, since then, featured in six ATP tournaments. Edmund has won nothing in those competitions. First round losses in them all.

While some defeats, like those to Jannik Sinner (twice) were on expected lines, his inability to overcome Miomir Kecmanovic, Wu Yibing, Marc-Andrea Huesler and the struggling Dominic Thiem would hurt.

He now has another chance to win one and this one comes against a player ranked 100th in the world. Surely Edmund will have a chance.

Muller Hoping to Replicate Marrakesh Form

Having begun the season ranked 160th on the ATP charts, Muller had then fallen to 173rd at one point. A superb display of tennis at the Marrakesh Open lifted him into the top 100 for the first time – peaking at 94th in the world – and he enters this tournament at 100th.

Muller’s confidence has sky-rocketed following that finals appearance in Marrakesh, where he had beaten players like Richard Gasquet and Lorenzo Musetti en route the title-deciding round. It was Roberto Carballes Baena who stalled his progress.

Things haven’t been as well as they were in Marrakesh but these two wins in the qualifiers to allow him make it through his maiden appearance in Rome should make things easier for Muller.

Can he now take advantage of Edmund’s strife?
