Ana Bogdan v Nao Hibino Head to Head
Bogdan leads 3-1, last beating Hibino in the 2021 Madrid Open qualifiers in three sets.

Hibino Scripts Personal History
Nao Hibino of Japan, currently ranked World No. 118, is set to make her Italian Open main-draw debut.
The 28-year-old had never made it past the qualifiers previously, but she broke that jinx this week by moving past Kristina Mladenovic and Sara Bejlek. With two matches back to back, it will be interesting to see if Hibino can maintain the same consistency when she takes on Bogdan.
Her record for the season is at an impressive 20-12, although a majority of those wins came in ITF tournaments and WTA qualifier matches.
Nao’s notable highlight includes winning the ITF Kashiwa last month and later reaching the quarterfinal in ITF Charleston.
Over the years, Hibino has always fared better on hard courts – but largely in low-tier events. She has only five WTA finals to her name – the last one coming in September 2019.

Bogdan, Fielding Experience
Ana Bogdan may not have played a whole lot of tennis when compared to her Japanese counterpart in 2023, but she still has the edge heading into this fixture.
The 30-year-old Romanian has a decent clay-court pedigree, including the runner-up feat from the Poland Open last season and the title run in Iasi Challenger. Ana is also a former World No. 48 (currently ranked #60) who has handed defeats to the likes of Maria Sakkari, Paula Badosa, and Barbora Krejcikova over her career.
Admittedly, her present year has been slow and bleak. She is 7-9 and has played in just two WTA tournaments in the last two months – Miami Open and Madrid Open.
In the latter, she fell to Shelby Rogers in round two, while in the former, she lost in the opener.
Bogdan’s best run came in Dubai, where, as a qualifier, she made it to the round of 16 after moving past Laura Siegemund and Rogers.
Bogdan v Hibino Prediction and Tip
With an advantage over Hibino in the head-to-head tally and superior experience, Bogdan should win this one. Whether it will be a straight-set affair or a three-setter is up to Nao – she does have some rhythm to her game to cause all sorts of troubles for the Romanian.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Bogdan to win: 4/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
