Casper Ruud v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came on the clay courts of Kitzbuhel in 2021. Ruud had won that in straight sets to enter the final.

Ruud in a Form Rut

Sure, Ruud won the Estoril Open last month but his overall form this season and more particularly his form on clay would be a cause for great concern.

Known for his performances on the red dirt, Ruud has just not been able to get into any sort of a rhythm and has stuttered to a 6-3 win-loss record on it despite that title victory.

His performances at the two Masters events – in Monte-Carlo and Madrid – have been specially shocking with early losses to Jan-Lennard Struff and Matteo Arnaldi having done enough to shake some of his confidence.

At the Barcelona Open which sandwiched between the aforementioned two tournaments, Ruud overcame Ben Shelton in his opener but was taken apart in straight sets by Francisco Cerundolo in the very next match.

Which is why while Ruud wouldn’t otherwise have sweated too much against a player of the calibre of Rinderknech, it would be a difficult call right now to assume the same.

Rinderknech Returns to Clay on Rome

It’s been a highly forgettable year for Rinderknech who has barely won a thing in main draws of the tournaments at the highest level. Which is when he took on Flavio Cobolli in the first round of the Italian Open here, he had started off a 2/1 rank outsider to win the encounter.

That wasn’t too surprising either with Rinderknech having not played a match on clay this year before that opener.

Not to mention, the former world number 42 had fallen to 89th in the world thanks to his poor record for the season which had seen him win just two main draw matches at the highest level.

And yet, due credit to the way he tamed Cobolli in the opener here, winning 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and a half. He faced four break-points but saved all of them with aplomb even as he got the better of his opponent’s serve once apiece in both the sets.

With nearly 70% of all service points won, Rinderknech showed glimpses of his previous self and that could be a cause for concern for his opponent here.

Ruud v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip

While Ruud starts off a 3/20 favourite and we reckon he would win it despite his form issues, it might not be a straightforward win.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 10/11
