Miomir Kecmanovic v Fabio Fognini Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters which Fognini went on to win in straight sets.

Kecmanovic in Second Round for the First Time in Rome

Kecmanovic has made it to the city of Rome to feature in this Masters 1000 tournament on four previous occasions but never has he ever made it past the first round.

And while he hasn’t won a match in this edition either, Kecmanovic entered the tournament as a seeded player which meant he had earned himself a first round bye. What now remains to be seen is if the Serb can clinch his maiden win in Rome.

The world number 37 enters the competition on the back of successive losses on clay but one must quickly add that he has had a decent stay on this surface otherwise. This includes a final appearance at the Estoril Open where Casper Ruud got the better of him and a semifinal in Banja Luka.

Unfortunately for him, defeats to Dusan Lajovic and Cristian Garin means Kecmanovic will be wary of going up against a player like Fognini, who is a clay-court specialist. Especially after Fognini comes into this match having gotten through against another veteran in his opener.

Fognini Overcomes Odds, Murray

With the kind of season that Fognini has had in 2023, it was a surprise he wasn’t longer than the 8/5 odds on offer for his opening round match against Andy Murray.

From the previous 10 matches that Fognini had played this year, Fognini had won just two of them but the mitigating circumstances were that both had come on clay.

Which is probably why despite having fallen to 130th in the world, Fognini might not have felt totally out of it. Especially going up against a player, who in recent times, hasn’t been at his best on clay.

That’s exactly what happened as Fognini notched up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Andy Murray in a match lasting nearly three hours and on the back of saving 14 of the 18 break-points he faced in the match.

Against Kecmanovic, Fognini will hope to find a way to better his serving but otherwise will enter the match with some confidence.

Kecmanovic v Fognini Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic starts a favourite but at 2/5 we think those are very short odds given what could turn out to be a close match.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 8/11
