Roberto Bautista Agut v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
Bautista Agut owns a 2-0 record over Marco Cecchinato, winning their last clash at the 2021 Madrid Open in three sets.

Subpar Year for Bautista Agut
Roberto Bautista Agut has a negative win-loss record heading to the 2023 Italian Open. He is 11-12 for the season, and worryingly for him, he’s won just three of his last 10 matches.
There is no shame in losing to the ATP’s best including Carlos Alcaraz, Karen Khachanov, and Alexander Zverev who account for his last three losses. But the Spaniard looks like a totally different player from the one that started the season amazingly well in Australia.
Bautista Agut is in a race against the clock to find his best tennis before Roland Garros which kicks off later this month. The Spanish veteran has been to the round of 16 twice in his six main draw visits to Rome.
But can he avoid a potentially intimating matchup against Marco Cecchinato in front of a partisan atmosphere?

Cecchinato Slices McDonald In Straight Sets
On a day when many Italian underdogs failed to deliver, their big favorite did. Marco Cecchinato knocked off Mackenzie McDonald 6-3 7-5 to advance into the second round of the Rome Masters.
Cecchinato was playing in his first main draw in Rome since 2020, the same year he also reached the second round. The bad omen is that he’s not managed to progress beyond that stage even in his glorious 2018 season.
On Thursday, he totally overwhelmed McDonald with his weight of shot, high topspin, and some cleverly angled backhands to breach the defensive American.
Cecchinato fired more than twice the winners (25 to 10), and won 21 of 28 net points, highlighting his superior variation and tennis IQ. He also converted four of seven break points, two in each set, to round off a straight-sets win.
Bautista Agut v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip
Just like Fognini’s match against Murray, the crowd could carry Cecchinato to an improbable win here. In that sense, he may be a decent shout to win a set at the very least here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Cecchinato to win a set: 4/7
- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 5/4
