Borna Coric v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

Thiago Monteiro leads Borna Coric 1-0 in the head-to-head. He won that match at the 2020  Bueno Aires Open in straight sets.

Positives for Coric in Madrid

Borna Coric was in a dreadful run of form heading to the Madrid Masters two weeks ago. But in tennis, one tournament can quickly change a player’s tennis fortunes.

Such was the case for Coric in the Spanish where he entered the tournament on the backdrop of a five-match losing streak. And aside from that, he had a negative win-loss record, 7-9.

But the Croat thrived in the altitude, absorbing power and hitting with depth and impeccable length throughout the fortnight. He picked up four wins including his first top-20 win of the season when he defeated Hubert Hurkacz.

Coric’s run in Madrid came to a screeching halt in the semis where he lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Monteiro Makes Short Work of Mannarino

Thiago Monteiro produced the most comprehensive win of the day, swatting aside fellow lefty Adrian Mannarino 6-1 6-2 to into the second round of the Rome Masters.

It’s the first time he’s won a main draw match at the Foro Italico in four visits. Monteiro had retired at the Cagliari Challenger last week, and doubts lingered on his participation in Rome.

But as it turned out, it was more precautionary as the Brazilian glided across the court to take the first set 6-1 in dominant fashion in just 29 minutes. For as long he is in the game, Monteiro might never play a better set of tennis.

But that was partially aided by Mannarino’s ineffective flat ground strokes which stood just in the perfect strike zone for Monteiro who tallied 11 winners to nine unforced errors and converted four of nine break points.

Coric v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

Coric has turned a corner, but he cannot take his eyes off the ball here. Monteiro is a tough cookie on clay, and he’ll give the Croat a game here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Coric to win: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11
