Andrey Rublev v Alex Molcan Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players before this and that came at the Banja Luka Open earlier this year. Rublev had won that semifinal in straight sets.

Rublev 10-2 on Clay This Season

It’s been a clay court season to remember for Rublev who has featured in three tournaments and won 10 matches to go with his two losses.

A title win at the Monte-Carlo Masters, his first ever ATP 1000 tournament win came at the expense of Karen Khachanov, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune before he took off at the Banja Luka Open as well.

The Russian made it to the final with a win over Molcan but then fell to Dusan Lajovic in the title-decider.

More recently, Rublev would have loved to do a lot better than his fourth round loss at the hands of Karen Khachanov but it did seem like it was one of those things that could happen at times. He would later go on to win the doubles title with Khachanov himself.

Rublev will hope to resume his singles winning ways and aim to get past his previous year’s second round loss for starters.

Molcan Stumbles Past Napolitano

Playing the 555th-ranked qualifier Stefano Napolitano, Molcan would have been expected to ease his way through to the second round.

He did make it to the next stage for sure but not before Molcan had been kept on the court for two hours and 25 minutes and was taken to a third set tie-breaker.

Molcan came through 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1) which interestingly saw both players break the other twice in the match. Molcan faced seven break-points, eventually converting two while getting just two opportunities on his opponent’s serve.

This was Molcan’s sixth win on clay for the season to go with four defeats. And while he was stretched by a player who was 4/1 odds coming into that encounter, Molcan’s performances on clay make him a competitive opponent for this surface.

Rublev v Molcan Prediction and Tip

Rublev is the obvious favourite but it must be quickly added that Molcan could make things difficult if the Russian doesn’t bring his A game out.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 10/11
