Iga Swiatek v Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head
It is 1-0 to Iga; they last met in the 2022 French Open where the Polish player won 6-2, 6-0.

Iga Starts Strong
Iga Swiatek enjoyed a comfortable win in her opening match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in round two. She delivered a serving of double bagels to the Russian, as she won the match 6-0, 6-0.
The two-time Italian Open champion is now aiming for her third successive title – by the looks of it, she has got a good chance at that.
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka is out of the competition (as are Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula), but that still leaves some work to be done for Swiatek. Should she beat Tsurenko, she may next face the likes of Donna Vekic, Maria Sakkari, or Elena Rybakina.
Of course, the 21-year-old is ready for the challenge. She is now 26-5 in 2023, backed by her title runs in Doha and Stuttgart, and runner-up feats in Madrid and Dubai.
There was a minor fitness scare several weeks ago, but that seems to have been addressed already.

Tsurenko, Yet to Drop a Set
33-year-old Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine is yet to drop a set in Rome this week. In the opener, the current World No. 68 defeated Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 and followed it with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Bernarda Pera. With these feats, she has posted her best results in the tournament.
This is quite in line with the wonderful season Tsurenko has had so far. She is already at an impressive 25-7 (by contrast, she closed 2022 at 25-14 and 2021 at 30-17).
Among her highlights are a semifinal showing in ITF Canberra, a runner-up feat in the Thailand Open, and round-three stints in Madrid and Indian Wells. Lesia has also spent some time playing in the qualifiers which have added to her wins and momentum.
Compared to Iga, Tsurenko lacks the top-tier experience – which can be a factor here.
Swiatek v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip
This match is pretty much Swiatek’s to lose. Granted that Tsurenko is more experienced, but she lacks the required pedigree and form – especially on clay – to take on the number one player on the tour. On her part though, she can win a few games and avoid a complete whitewash.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Iga to win 2-0: 3/7
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
