Djokovic Suffers Set Loss to Dimitrov

Djokovic’s overall record against Grigor Dimitrov is ample indicator why he was such a huge favourite going into their match despite his elbow issues. And for most part it looked like Djokovic was going to live up to those expectations too.

In the end, Djokovic looked far from his best but still came through in three sets to set up this fourth round meeting with Cameron Norrie.

The world number one stumbled in the second set but found a way to ease past Dimitrov in the third. In a match lasting two hours and 20 minutes, Djokovic won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to grab a place in the round of 16.

Djokovic had his troubles in the first two sets as he first lost his serve in the first game of the opening set and then lost the second set after being 4-2 up at one stage.

In the decider, however, Djokovic upped the ante like nobody’s business, breaking his opponent three times without facing a single break-point in return. It remains to be seen if Djokovic can grow further into the tournament.

Norrie Makes Successive Wins for the First Time Since Indian Wells

Things looked to be going Norrie’s way in the first quarter of this season but in more recent times, his form seems to have deserted him.

As a result of that, since making it to the quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Masters, Norrie has played in five tournaments and this one in Rome is only the first time he’s made the fourth round.

And Norrie has done that by defeating Marton Fucsovics, winning 6-2, 7-6 (4) in over two hours.

The British number one, who had no trouble overcoming Alexandre Muller in the previous, crashed through Fucsovics’ serve on two occasions in the first set while not facing a single break-point.

In the second, however, Norrie squandered a 5-1 lead and six match-points before finally fixing his game and coming through in the tie-breaker. He would hope not to suddenly lose control of his game like he did there against Djokovic because that could make it very easy for the world number one.

Djokovic v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is a favourite but we cannot be fully sure of his fitness concerns. We still think he should come through but what’s tougher to call is the duration of the encounter.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Norrie to break Djokovic serve – Over 1.5 times: 5/6
