Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Zverev Head to Head

There have been 14 previous meetings between these two and Medvedev has won eight of them while Zverev has clinched six. The Monte-Carlo Masters meeting earlier this season was their first match on clay and Medvedev had clinched it in a third set tie-breaker.

Medvedev Stretched by Zapata Miralles

Medvedev made a slow start to his third round match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles but came through in the end by clinching it in three sets.

The world number three, whose dislike for clay is well-chronicled, was on court for nearly two hours before he squeezed into the fourth round with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Both of the service breaks that Medvedev endured came in the opening set as Zapata Miralles raced away to a 5-1 lead. The Russian got back his mojo in the very next game as he broke right back but failed to earn that second break he needed to push the set on.

Nevertheless, his rhythm continued into the second set where it was his turn to go 5-1 up and close it out soon after.

And while Zapata Miralles put up a better showing in the decider, Medvedev earned a break of serve in the seventh game while facing none on his own serve. He broke a second time to finish off the encounter.

After having registered a straight-set win over Emil Ruusuvuori in the previous round, it will be interesting to see if he can reproduce some of his previous spark against Zverev.

Zverev Sends Wolf on a Hunt

It took him an hour and 49 minutes but Zverev came through in straight sets in his third round win over JJ Wolf.

Zverev won 6-4, 7-5 in a rather cagey encounter that saw a total of four breaks of serves. It was Zverev’s excellent serving, which saw him win over 70% of his service points, that helped him no end even as Wolf managed to get past the German’s serve on one occasion.

All it needed was a break in the very first game of the opening set for Zverev to go on to clinch the set. He repeated that in the second set too but was broken back in the very next game.

The German took time to get back into rhythm but when the pressure was on, in the 11th game, he broke to love before serving it out.

This follows a hard-fought win in the second round over David Goffin, who had taken him a third set. Can he now avenge his loss at the hands of Medvedev?

Medvedev v Zverev Prediction and Tip
