Stefanos Tsitsipas v Borna Coric Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two and Coric leads 3-2. Other than their first meeting, way back in 2018 in this very tournament where Coric had to retire from the match at 1-4 in the first set, all the remaining ones have been hard-fought.

Coric leads 3-2 with two of those wins over Tsitsipas coming last year.

Tsitsipas Tames Musetti

It took Tsitsipas some time but in the end he managed to come through in straight sets against Lorenzo Musetti to seal his last eight spot.

Having overcome the other Lorenzo – Sonego – on the same day, Tsitsipas needed a further hour and 53 minutes to end the Musetti run and make it to the quarterfinal. He won 7-5, 7-5.

Where Tsitsipas scored over Musetti was his first serves which won him 80% of his points. While his second serve stats dipped to a mere 44%, those were still better than Musetti’s 41%.

In the first set it was Tsitsipas who broke first before Musetti levelled things out to push it to 5-5. Tsitsipas then exerted enough pressure on Musetti as he served to stay in the set at 5-6.

This was reversed in the second set when Musetti grabbed the early lead only to get broken by Tsitsipas as they pushed it to 5-5 yet again. For the second time ina  row, Tsitsipas held serve and then broke his opponent to 15 to march on.

Coric Ends Marozsan’s Run

Fabian Marozsan shot to fame earlier in the tournament when he carved out a neat victory over the man-of-the-hour and world number two Carlos Alcaraz but his fairy-tale journey was interrupted by Coric.

Coric was on court for two hours and 10 minutes and needed three sets alright before he came through to make it to the quarterfinals. This is the second clay-court quarterfinal appearance in a row for Coric this season having done the same in Madrid as well.

Slamming nine, Coric overcame the loss of the first set to clinch a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 with the Croat grabbing every inch that was afforded to him. In fact Coric saved three break-points in the second and third sets while breaking his opponent twice from the two chances he got.

At Madrid, Coric had taken that extra step further, defeating Daniel Altmaier to make the semifinal. This time’s opponent is of a far higher quality though.

Tsitsipas v Coric Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas and Coric have had an interesting history with the Croat having gotten the better of his opponent multiple times. That being said, clay is a different proposition and we will have to back the world number five to get this.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 3/10
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11
