Daniil Medvedev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head
There have been 11 previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev leads 7-4 on head to head. Interestingly, they have faced off twice on clay too and it’s 1-1 there with Medvedev having actually overcome Tsitsipas in Monte-Carlo in 2019.

Medvedev Breezes Past Hanfmann
It’s been quite a turnaround for Medvedev playing on clay as he makes a ATP 1000 Masters semifinal on this surface for just the second time in his career. And he did so with a facile win over Yannick Hanfmann in the previous round.
Medvedev won 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 22 minutes against Hanfmann to make it his second successive victory against a German player. He had earlier knocked Alexander Zverev out, making it successive wins over him on clay after having done the same to him at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Here in Rome, Medvedev did lose his serve twice in the encounter – one in each round – but that wasn’t enough to allow Hanfmann to gain any sort of an advantage over the Russian. He was broken six times in return.
The world number three, who had entered his least favourite surface season with a win-loss record of 29-3, has managed to keep his head high on clay as well. The question now is with the absence of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, can Medvedev find himself a way to clinch his maiden clay-court title.
That won’t be easy either way given he will be up against a player who relishes playing on clay.

Tsitsipas Makes it Four Straight-Set Wins in a Row
A finalist at the Barcelona Open and having lost in the quarterfinal in both Monte-Carlo and Madrid, this will be a good chance for Tsitsipas to make amends and clinch his maiden title of the season.
For one, the top two ranked players have already been knocked out. But more so because of the form he has shown all tournament, having just registered his fourth successive straight-set victory.
After having overpowered Nuno Borges in his opener and then sent the two Lorenzos, Sonego and Musetti packing, Tsitsipas was pitted against Borna Coric in the quarterfinal. And an hour and 37 minutes is all he took to come through.
Tsitsipas won 6-3, 6-4 thanks to his superlative serving which saw him win 90% of his first serve points in the encounter.
And such was his clinical nature in the first set, Tsitsipas broke his opponent off the very first chance he got. In the second set, Tsitsipas grabbed another early break to go 4-2 up, and then traded breaks in the eighth and ninth games to ensure Coric wouldn’t have much of an opportunity to make a comeback.
He now faces a remarkably improved Medvedev but will know this would be a very good chance to get past the world number three.
Medvedev v Tsitsipas Prediction and Tip
While Medvedev has done extremely well in the tournament so far, Tsitsipas holds the arsenal on clay to see him off. We might see a three-setter but that’s about the fight we can see from Medvedev.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 4/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 4/5
