Andreescu Shows No Signs of Slowing Down
Around the same time last season, Andreescu was played in the ITF tournaments in a bid to gain some experience and build her form before moving to the WTA events. Needless to mention, practising in those competitions has done wonders for her.
Up until last year, there weren’t a lot of fans who were aware of a dominant force like Andreescu and now, she is among the favourites to win in Indian Wells. Her rise to glory began earlier this year in WTA Auckland, where she started as a qualifier and made it to the final, settling for her first runner-up trophy.
After that, she won the tournament in Newport Beach and followed it with a semifinal appearance in Acapulco. Between these events, she also played in the Fed Cup and won both of her fixtures easily.
So far this year, Andreescu has already defeated many top players like Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams. It was the same case in Indian Wells too, moving past the likes of Dominika Cibulkova and Qiang Wang.
Her quarterfinal bout against Garbine Muguruza was among her best performance of the season. She dispatched the Spaniard 6-0, 6-1, in just 53 minutes.
Yet Another Semifinal for Svitolina
Just like Andreescu, this is the third consecutive semifinal for the Ukranian on the WTA tour this year. She had a good run in the Middle-East swing, reaching the final four in Doha and Dubai. However, she lost on the two occasions respectively to Simona Halep and Belinda Bencic.
Svitolina has had a rather easy route to the semifinal in comparison to other players although, she did face a couple of problems here and there. In her opening match against Sofia Kenin, she was pushed to three sets and had a similar run against Ashleigh Barty too.
Even her quarterfinal bout against Marketa Vondrousova was along the same lines.
Svitolina v Andreescu Predictions & Tips
While Svitolina is considerably more experienced than Andreescu, she will still have to keep an eye out for the young Canadian. Andreescu’s determination and form has taken her through to some tough matches already this season and she will fancy her chances in this semifinal too. Her dominant performance over Muguruza was nothing short of a warning for other players on the tour.
