Magda Linette v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Pavlyuchenkova; they last met in the 2016 Olympics, where the Russian won the match 6-0, 6-3.

Linette Survives Bucsa

Top seed Magda Linette was put to an early test in Strasbourg as she navigated a tricky match with Cristina Bucsa. In a little over two hours, she took the game 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, winning 65% of the points behind the first serve.

With this, she is now 16-12, still continuing her quest for a result similar to her semifinal showdown in the Australian Open. That run saw her overcome the likes of Anett Kontaveit, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Caroline Garcia, and Karolina Pliskova.

Since then, she has been consistent, at the very least. Linette reached the quarterfinal in Merida and the fourth round in the Miami Open.

On clay, it’s been a series of mixed results for the Pole. The current World No. 21 is 4-3 on the surface, courtesy of third-round exits in Madrid, Rome, and Charleston.

Compared to Pavlyuchenkova on paper, Magda does face a tough test as her opponent is better equipped to handle the complexities of the turf. But in reality, the advantage lies with her.

Pavlyuchenkova Starts Well

Still continuing her comeback after a long injury layoff last season, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Angelina Gabueva in the opener 6-3, 6-1.

This was among her biggest wins of the season – other being the 6-1, 6-1 rout of Sara Errani in Rome. However, she did follow through on that with a double bagel loss against Iga Swiatek in round two.

Pavlyuchenkova is now 7-8, ranked #424. She is still seeking momentum but her efforts haven’t been that fruitful. Except for a quaterfinal stint in ITF Croissy-Beaubourg, the 31-year-old hasn’t won more than a match in any other event.

Her clay form, however, does inspire confidence for a comeback. She is a champion here in Strasbourg (2018) and a French Open runner-up.

Linette v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction and Tip

Linette starts this one as the favourite but Pavlyuchenkova should fancy her chances. She is strong on this surface and with every game, she is finding a little bit of old self.

It may not be an easy game for the either player but for the audiences, they are in store for a competitive affair.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Linette to win: 3/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 2/1
