A quarterfinalist at the Rome Masters, Cerundolo needed to win just one set in Lyon to make the last eight.
After earning a first round bye, Cerundolo had just clinched the first set of his second round match against Juan Pablo Varillas in 30 minutes. At this stage, however, Varillas to retire from the match because of fitness concerns, giving the Argentine an easy passage into the quarterfinals.
This win comes on the back of a mixed season for Cerundolo who would have liked to do a lot better than the 11-8 win-loss record he has on his favourite clay. At the same time a quarterfinal appearance at the Miami Masters has allowed him to remain in the top 30 of the ATP Rankings.
He now faces a stiff opposition in the form of Draper who has been tipped to be the next British player to watch out.

Draper Eases Past Kecmanovic
Draper wasn’t quite the favourite going into the second round of this tournament against Miomir Kecmanovic and there were times in the match that it did look like his opponent held the upper hand too.
The British player, however, didn’t allow that and his lack of tennis to cause too many issues as he ensured he wouldn’t give up in a hurry.
Down 3-1 in the first set, he levelled things out with a break of serve in the eighth game and then broke Kecmanovic to love in the 10th to win the set. The second set went to serve with neither player facing a single break-point till 5-5.
Draper then held on to his serve and earned two break-points – and match-points – converting the second one.
This win follows a 6-2, 6-3 drubbing of Alexandre Muller in the first round.
Cerundolo v Draper Prediction and Tip
While Cerundolo is a favourite for his clay court prowess, one cannot discount Draper in this one. Expecting a hard-fought encounter that could see a third set.
