Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jiri Vesely Head to Head
Their only previous outing came in the 2017 Rome Challenger and Tsitsipas had needed three sets to get past Vesely. Things have changed drastically since then.

Tsitsipas 13-4 on Clay for the Season
He hasn’t won a single title this season but it can be equally said about Tsitsipas that it’s been a while since he was this consistent with his results.
Other than a shock opening loss at the Indian Wells Masters, Tsitsipas has dished out some sparkling wins and gone deep into some of the top level competitions including the Australian Open.
A finalist at the season’s first Grand Slam, Tsitsipas then made it to the final of the Barcelona Open as well, losing to Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz respectively.
More recently, Tsitsipas was a semifinalist in Rome which gave him a 13-4 win-loss record on clay – a surface he has done well on over the years too.
What will be interesting to see is how he manages his performances at the French Open after having split with his coach just days before the start of the tournament. Mark Philippoussis had been a part of his coaching set-up for a while but announced they were no longer working together.
Can Tsitsipas shrug that off and kick-start one of the most Roland-Garros edition in recent history with an easy win?

Vesely Hasn’t Played Much This Season
Vesely is a veteran of many years of professional tennis but he is still just 29 years old and might have a lot of tennis left in him. And what he would like to do is to overturn his run of form and fitness issues and return to his best, which had seen him climb to 35th in the world at one point.
Only last season he was 66th on the ATP Rankings as well, which is a pointer to where he belongs before his ranking fell off the cliff. This was down to his performance in Dubai last year where he had made the final, following which he was unable to defend his points this season.
In fact, Vesely has featured in only two tournaments this year – at the Ostrava Challenger and the Prague 4 Challenger. He made the quarterfinal at the former and lost his opener at the latter.
Unfortunately for him, that uptick he is hoping for might not happen any time soon as he takes on a player who isn’t just a top-five ranked one, but also in form all season.
Tsitsipas v Vesely Prediction and Tip
Tsitsipas should not have a lot of trouble here and a straight-set win looks par for the course as a result for the Greek number one.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 2/5
