Coming into this tournament on the back of just one win from his previous five matches, Auger-Aliassime overcame a slow start before winning his second round match.
The world number 10 needed nearly an hour and a half in which he was broken once – in the very first game of the encounter – before he managed to stop Pedro Llamas Ruiz dead in his tracks.
The two traded breaks in the first couple of games of the opening set before Auger-Aliassime held his side of things. He failed to create break-point opportunities though and it was only in the 12th game with Ruiz serving at 5-6 that he got his first chance since the second game.
While Auger-Aliassime missed the first break-point chance, he broke Ruiz off the second to pocket the set.
He then saved three break-points off his own serve and broke Ruiz in the second and eighth game to end the contest.
Can he now make it successive wins for the first time since the Indian Wells Masters where he entered the quarterfinals?

Fils Wins after Ymer Default
Fils was leading Mikael Ymer 6-5 in the first set of their second round match, having just broken his Swedish opponent when things went rather berserk in Lyon.
A thoroughly frustrated Ymer smashed his racket and bore a hole on the match referee’s chair, leaving the tournament director with no option but to disqualify the Swede. Fils won by default and advanced to his third quarterfinal of the season.
Having already made it to the semifinal at two previous France-based tournaments this season, Fils looked to have continued from where he had left off in round one as he broke Ymer in the third game of the match.
Ymer retaliated with a break back in the sixth and then saved three break-points in the ninth. Fils was forced to save a set-point in the 10th game before he was broken in the 11th.
Fils will now hope to keep this run going against a player ranked more than 100 places ahead of him but in a bit of a strife.
Auger-Aliassime v Fils Prediction and Tip
Auger-Aliassime might be the favourite here but Fils can be expected to put up a show in front of his home crowd. Expect the Frenchman to even sneak in a set.
