Bernarda Pera v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both times matches taking place last year.

Kontaveit won on the grass of Wimbledon, but Pera was victorious on clay in Hamburg a few weeks later.

Pera Twice a Winner on Clay Last Year

Pera had never reached the third round of a Grand Slam before until Melbourne this year. Her previous visits to Paris have either ended at the first or second round stage.

However, she returns this year as a two time WTA tour winner, having collected the titles in both Budapest and Hamburg last July, both of them on clay.

So far this year the American does not appear to be in that type of form, especially since switching to clay.

Arguably her best recent result was in Charleston where she reached the third round.

Her Madrid campaign did not last longer than one match, and Rome was only marginally better.

She comes to Paris from Strasbourg, where she was beaten in the second round by Kimberley Birrell of Australia, the world number 111.

Kontaveit’s Dramatic Ranking Decline

This time last year, Kontaveit was the number two ranked player in the world, and it seemed only a matter of time before Estonia could celebrate its first Grand Slam winner.

The fact that she begins the tournament this time ranked as low as she is demonstrates how her form has dipped since then.

Her record in Paris is patchy as well – although she reached the fourth round in 2018, since then she has been beaten in the first round on three out of four occasions.

Recent results, have not suggested an upturn of fortunes may be on the cards for the 31 year old, with a first round defeat in Madrid and a second round exit in Rome.

Indeed, it is necessary to go back to last October and Tallinn to find an event where she last won more than a single match.

Pera v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

The form that took Kontaveit to two in the world seems to have deserted her completely at the moment. Pera may not have found the same performance levels that she did last year, but she can still consider herself favourite for this match.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Pera to win: 5/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
