Taylor Fritz v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and that came way back in 2019 on clay. Fritz had won that in two tie-breakers.

Fritz Routs Ivashka

Fritz did not give Ilya Ivashka too many chances as he came through his quarterfinal match in a mere 52 minutes.

The world number nine slammed six aces and won 32 out of the 37 points off his owns serve in the entire match, not facing a single break-point. On the other hand, Fritz broke his opponent four times from the seven opportunities he got to register a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

This win follows a three-set victory in the previous round in which Fritz needed to come back from a set down to oust Marcos Giron. And with Ivashka ousted too, it was his 29th win for the season to go with a mere 10 losses.

What Fritz will like is to take that step further towards winning his second title for the season which has seen him lift the Delray Beach Open trophy as well. Can he make it to the final of a clay court competition for the first time in his career?

Dimitrov Needs His Time against O’Connell

It took Dimitrov a whopping two hours and 46 minutes before he managed to get past his Aussie opponent Christopher O’Connell and seal his semifinal berth in Geneva.

The fourth seed won 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4 in a keenly-fought encounter which saw Dimitrov get the decisive break in the seventh game of the final set. He had a match-point in the ninth game but finally converted one off his own serve to win the encounter.

In an evenly-balanced first set, Dimitrov failed to convert any of the three break-points he got before O’Connell turned things around by winning the closely-fought tie-breaker.

It was the improvement in Dimitrov’s second serve numbers that allowed him to make a comeback as he overcame a 0-3 deficit to level the set out with two breaks of serves. It took Dimitrov some time to win the final set as he quashed an attempted comeback from O’Connell by breaking him a second time.

Can he now challenge Fritz?

Fritz v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

While Fritz isn’t as big clay-courter as he is a hardcourt player, we still think he will not only win this but also do it in two.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Fritz to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Fritz to win in straight sets: 7/5
