Cameron Norrie v Benoit Paire Head to Head

Norrie has won both his previous matches against Paire and he is yet to drop a set. One of those wins came in Auckland in 2019 and the other at the U.S.Open least year.

As we were writing the preview Cameron Norrie was preparing to play in the Lyon Open semifinal for the fourth time in his career. It is just his fifth attempt and he is chasing a third straight final spot in the tournament.

Norrie finished runner-up to Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2021 and then beat Alex Molcan for the title last year.

His will be relieved with his run in Lyon after his clay court form suffered on European soil this year. But while he is 6-4 on clay in Europe this season, he has a fantastic 14-5 overall record on clay this year, having reached back-to-back finals on the South American swing. While he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final in Buenos Aires, he beat Alcaraz for the title in Rio.

The world no.14 was also a finalist in Auckland this year and has an overall record of 27-9.

The 27-year-old will be making his seventh main draw appearance in Roland Garros. His best in the clay court major included back-to-back third round finishes in 2021 and 2022.

But the 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist will be looking to improve that record in this year’s tournament.

World no. 149 Benoit Paire has been handed a wild card in this year’s edition. The 34-year-old is 0-4 at the tour level this year, but he is 20-19 overall and 8-8 on clay.

At Roland Garros, Paire has a 12-13 record so far. While his best was a round of 16 appearance in 2019, the last two years have seen him suffer first round losses.

Paire is a three-time champion on the tour and all those three titles have come on clay.

He has however struggled at the tour level in recent years, but has been doing well at the Challenger level this year. He won the Puerto Vallarta Challenger on hard court to claim his first title at any level since 2019.

He recently finished runner-up to Alejandro Tabilo at Francavilla al Mare Challenger in what was his 15th Challenger final. He has 7-8 record from his previous Challenger finals.
