Gasquet’s Disappointing Clay Court Season

Gasquet has been competing at the French Open since 2004, the year that he won the mixed doubles there with partner Tatiana Golovin.

His best singles result came in 2016, when he made the quarter-finals, although he has reached the fourth round on four previous occasions, although not for seven years.

An all court player who has won titles on all the main surfaces, Gasquet is not regarded as a clay court specialist, in part because of the lack of variety of his groundstrokes, and his susceptibility to drop shots.

Now approaching the veteran stage of his career, he has had a disappointing clay court season so far, which began with first round defeats in Marrakech and Monte Carlo.

Second round appearances in Banja Luka and Madrid represented a marginal improvement, but Rome saw him exit at the first round stage again.

A switch to the Challenger tour in Bordeaux brought some respite with a run to the last eight, but Lyon saw yet another first round defeat.

Rinderknech’s Miserable Paris Record

Rinderknech has a miserable record in what is his home Grand Slam, On his three previous appearances at Roland Garros, he has never been beyond the first round here.

Nor will be feeling very confident on improving on that, after a poor run of form, that has seen him tumble from being the number one raked player to one nearer the bottom of the top 100 than the top.

Arguably he has not helped his cause by playing comparatively little on clay this year.

After playing in Miami, he chose to miss most of the major clay court tournaments, only reappearing in Rome, where he reached the second round.

He then lost in the first round of the Challenger event in Bordeaux, and in the second round in Lyon, beaten in three sets by the American Brandon Nakashima.

Gasquet v Rinderkneh Prediction and Tip

Whilst Gasquet is not in the best of form, he is playing a man who has never won a match at his home Grand Slam, and seems underprepared on clay this year to improve on that record.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Gasquet to win: 4/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Gasquet to win in four sets: 10/3
