Francisco Cerúndolo v Jaume Munar Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two – one on the Challenger circuit in 2020 and the other earlier in Buenos Aires. Both matches have come on clay and Cerundolo has won both times.

Cerúndolo Coming off Solid Performance in Lyon
At the time of writing, Cerundolo is a few hours away from featuring in an ATP final which will be played in Lyon.
The world number 28, who could rise as much as seven places if he was to go on to win that title, had had a modest season in the lead-up to the Lyon Open.
Cerundolo had made it to the third round of the Australian Open, and was a quarterfinalist in Miami and Rome, two 1000 Masters events on the circuit. Unfortunately for him there have been a few other performances which have stalled his chances of breaking into the top 20.
These include a second round loss in Madrid and Monte-Carlo and an opening defeat in Santiago.
What makes things slightly more difficult for Cerundolo also is he might have a lot of time between his final in Geneva and this opener in Roland-Garros. Will he recover in time to get things rolling at a Grand Slam he has never made beyond round one?

Munar Returns from Injury
After having made the fourth round of the Madrid Masters earlier this month, Munar would have been expected to do well in Rome as well. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to continue his match after trailing Thanasi Kokkinakis 4-2 in the first set with fitness concerns forcing him to retire from that encounter.
What makes it worse is Munar’s injury came at a time when he was just about to gaining some traction. After having lost eight of the 20 matches he’d played this season, Munar had won those three in a row in Madrid which included a win over Kokkinakis and Tallon Griekspoor.
So while the good news is that Munar is back and should be raring to go but he has been drawn to face a high-quality opponent in the first round.
What Munar would hope for is to get back to his best fitness and give it his best as he prepares for the rest of the season.
Cerúndolo v Munar Prediction and Tip
Cerundolo should win this one and we also think there is a good chance of it ending up being a straight-set win for the Argentine. Tough call that but given Munar’s return and Cerundolo’s form it could be a good punt to go with.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Cerundolo to win the first set: 4/9
- High Risk Tip: Cerundolo to win in straight sets: 7/4
