De Minaur 3-4 on Clay This Season

Things haven’t looked too bright for De Minaur coming into the French Open, especially when once considers his performances on clay.

The Aussie has won just three of the seven matches he’s played in on clay, but as soon as he has had an opponent of any noteworthy pedigree, de Minaur has fallen by the wayside.

Both his last two matches, against Aslan Karatsev at the Madrid Masters and Marton Fucsovics in Rome, ended in defeats too which speaks volumes about his recent struggles.

Having begun the season rather well on hardcourts, de Minaur will now make it to the French Open with neither the results nor the confidence of having done too much in this tournament in the past. He has just two wins at Roland-Garros where he has been playing since 2017.

Can he add a third to his name?

Ivashka Shows Some Sparkle in Geneva for a Change

While Ivashka did not have the greatest of outings against Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal of the Geneva Open, losing that last match before coming into the French Open in straight sets, he will be in a slightly better frame of mind than he was earlier.

The Belarusian player had fallen to five successive defeats in clay which included a second round loss at the Monte-Carlo Masters, and another opening loss in a Challenger tournament in France.

Add that to Ivashka’s overall record on clay which is an abysmal 14-21 on head to head and you are probably looking at someone who doesn’t quite relish this surface.

Ivashka did make the second round of this tournament last year, defeating Benoit Paire, but then lost to Cristian Garin in the second. Can he show his mettle here as well against a player who has had his own issues on the red dirt?

de Minaur v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

De Minaur might not be in the greatest of touches but he does look like he has a better chance at this than his opponent who has been struggling as well.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 35.5 games in the match: 5/6
  • High Risk Tip: De Minaur to win AND Both players to win a set: 13/10
