Since her return to tennis this season, Svitolina hasn’t quite gotten going and that was quite understandable. In fact, even when she made it to the semifinal of the WTA 125 event in Saint-Malo it was a bit of a surprise.
What, therefore, becomes even better from her perspective is that she has followed that up with a final appearance here in Strasbourg.
Having hit a ranking low of 1344 earlier this season, Svitolina will also know she can break into the top 200 if she wins this tournament now. Even without a win, Svitolina will enter the French Open ranked 258th and that should give her a lot of confidence.
Svitolina, who had surprised Varvara Gracheva in her quarterfinal before this, overcame Clara Burel in a hard-fought semifinal that lasted two hours and 23 minutes. The question is if Svitolina has enough firepower left in her tank to test out Blinkova.

For the third match in a row, Blinkova had gone into her match as the second favourite. And for the third time in succession she overcame her more fancied opponent, defeating Lauren Davis easily this time to give herself a chance to win her third WTA title.
Blinkova, who had begun the tournament by losing the first set she played in to Amandine Hesse, hasn’t lost another once since.
Anna-Lena Friedsam and Emma Navarro have both been sent packing and in the semifinal Blinkova routed Davis 6-2, 6-2. The match lasted a mere hour and 15 minutes.
The Russian raced off to a 4-1 lead with two breaks of serve and while it looked like Davis was pulling things back when she broke Blinkova in the sixth game, it was the only time she would get herself a break.
A break in the very next game for Blinkova ended Davis’ hopes and she followed it up with a break in the third and seventh games of the second set.
