Adrian Mannarino v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

The pair have met once before, and that was also in Paris, but at the Masters event on indoor hard courts back in 2019.

Mannarino won in straight sets.

Clay Mannarino’s Least favourite Surface

Mannarino first played the French Open back in 2008, but, in all the years since, he has never been further than the second round here.

By his own admission, clay is his least favourite surface. All eleven of his ATP finals and his two titles have been on either hard or grass courts, most recently in Winston Salem last year.

There have been few indications this year that his fortunes at Roland Garros are about to change.

In fact, prior to Lyon, earlier this week, he had won just one clay court match in 2023, and that was in the first round of a Challenger event in Portugal.

He at last improved on that by beating the Serb Filip Krajinovic in straight sets, but then lost to Ilya Ivashka in three.

Humbert Has Won Two Challenger Titles This Month

Humbert has a dismal record in his home Grand Slam. He failed to qualify in 2018, and lost in the first round in the next four years.

He will have high hopes of ending that sequence this time round, after his recent performances on the Challenger tour.

In February, he was the beaten finalist in Pau, France, although that was on hard courts. But this month, he has won two clay court titles, first in Cagliari, and then in Bordeaux where he beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina in the final.

Sandwiched between those was a first round defeat in Rome to Emil Ruusuvouri, which should serve as a useful reminder to Humbert not to get too overconfident.

Mannarino v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Given Humbert’s recent from on clay on the Challenger tour, and Mannarino’s continued struggles on the surface, there appears likely to be only one winner in this all French clash.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Humbert to win: 2/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 34.5 games in the match: 5/6
