Patrick Kypson v Radu Albot Head to Head

Kypson Returns to Main Draws after Six Years
It’s interesting to note that Kypson has played one main draw match at the highest level before this and that came at the 2017 US Open.
Yes, that’s correct, that’s six years since Kypson last featured in the first round of any tournament and he will hope it’s a better showing than that time.
Between then and now, a lot has changed for the American. He was ranked around 900th in the world at that time and as a 17-year-old it looked like it was a path to a quick change in his ranking and more of the higher level tournaments.
Not much of that materialised for the following five years, with Kypson never once improving to better than 449th in the world. In fact in more recent times, as recently as last year, Kypson was outside of the top 700 and it’s only this season that the American’s performances on the Challenger circuit have helped him break into the top 350.
At the San Louis Potosi Challenger, Kypson made the semifinal as a qualifier. He then repeated the same in Savannah and that’s how he was awarded a wildcard here.
Can he now win his maiden main draw match at the highest level?

Albot Scrapes Through the Qualifiers
A semifinalist at the Delray Beach Open earlier this year, Albot has struggled to garner too many points after that with his results at the highest level going awry. The once-39th-ranked player had broken into the top 100 earlier this year for a bit his ailing form has pushed him out again and he’s fallen to 111th in the world.
The other factor to look at here is Albot’s performances on clay.
He is 33 and has had a career made up on playing at the highest level on different types of surfaces and his record on dirt is a paltry 24 wins to 36 defeats. That’s a mere 40% of the matches won.
What he would now like to do is use his momentum from having won three successive qualifying rounds to try and force his way into the second round by beating a player who has never been ranked in the top 300.
Kypson v Albot Prediction and Tip
Albot starts off a favourite at 4/11 but that’s not to say there won’t be a bit of a tussle. Backing Kypson to win a set for sure but for Albot to scrape through to a win.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Albot to win AND Both players to win a set: 5/4
