Tricky Opener for Vekic
Donna Vekic will take on a player who is real kryptonite in their series. Yastremska has won three of their four meetings at all levels, although the Croat will be buoyed by her only win which was emphatic at last year’s Eastbourne International.
Vekic briefly re-entered the top 20 this season but has since dropped a few spots outside it coming to the French Open. But it does not affect her seeding status.
Last year, the 26-year-old had to qualify for the main draw, but her campaign ended in the second round. This year, she arrives in the best form of her career. Vekic has won 20 of her 27 matches.
Among her season’s highlights include a run to her second Grand Slam quarterfinal at this year’s Australian Open. At the start of March, she won her fourth career title in Monterrey defeating top-5 player Caroline Garcia in the final.
It is pertinent to note that of her seven defeats this season, five of those have come against top-20 opposition, which shows the caliber of opponents it has taken to beat Vekic.

Yastremska Survives Chaotic Qualifying
Dayana Yastremska survived three rounds of potential danger to book her spot in the main draw of the French Open for the fourth time.
Yastremska’s only straight-sets win came in the first round where she defeated Alexandra Ignatik. Since then, she’s needed three sets to beat both Sachia Vickery and Greet Minnen.
Against the feisty Belgian, Yastremska had to all out on the attack. Her risk-tolerant approach yielded a whopping 49 unforced errors and four double faults. But Yastremska had more winners than Minnen (30 to 16).
There was little to separate the two players who served the same number of double faults. First serves landed in were not dissimilar and both broke each other five times.
But in the third set, Yastremska was the better player as Minnen only tallied three winners and was broken twice.
Vekic v Yastremksa Prediction and Tip
As aforementioned at the top of the article, Vekic has been a consistent force this season and has lost the bulk of her matches against top 20 players. No surprises are expected here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Vekic to win: 8/15
- Moderate Risk Tip: Vekic to win in straight sets: 6/5
