Cirstea Making Her 15th Roland Garros Appearance

Sorana Cirstea is set to play in the main draw at French Open for the 15th time. It is also the only Grand Slam where she has reached the quarterfinals once but that was way back in 2009.

The 33-year-old Romanian has been scratchy at the tour level clay court tournaments this year. But the preparations for the clay court major have still been good as she won her maiden WTA 125 title in Reus earlier this month, defeating Elizabeth Mandlik in the final.

On the tour, she won her first round matches in Madrid and Rome but fell in the second round of both the tournaments. Most recently, she featured in the Strasbourg Open, going down fighting to Clara Burel in two tough sets.

Ranked no. 31st in the world, Cirstea was in excellent form just before the clay season began as she reached the quarterfinals in Indian Wells and the semifinals in Miami.

She may not have been that sharp on the tour level clay court events but the win in Reus would have helped her confidence. She is 7-3 on clay and 20-11 overall, across levels this season. Can Cirstea get off to a good start?

Paolini plays well on clay and all three of her WTA 125 finals have come on the surface with the Italian winning two of them. On the tour, she has played two finals, both on hard courts, winning her only title at the Slovenia Open in 2021.
