Yulia Putintseva v Maryna Zanevska Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between Putintseva, who is 28, and the Belgian, a year older.

Putintseva Twice a Paris Quarter-Finalist

Putintseva has twice previously been a quarter-finalist in Paris, in 2016, and 2018, although her more recent visits have not been quite so successful. However, both her wins on the WTA senior tour have come on clay – in Nuremburg in 2019, and in Budapest, two years later.

Her clay court form so far this year has been mixed, with three successive second round defeats in Charleston, Madrid and Rome.

She improved on that in Rabat where she reached the quarter-finals.

However, Putintseva would have been disappointed to then lose to the world number 195, Julia Riera of Argentina, beaten in three sets after losing a third set tie-break.

Zanevska Yet to Reach Roland Garros Second Round

Although born in Ukraine, Zanevska has been living in Belgium since 2008, and gained citizenship eight years later.

This will be her fourth time in the main draw in Paris, but she has never been beyond the first round, and her appearances have tended to be sporadic due to a failure to qualify in some of the previous years.

At least she was spared the rigours of that this time round due to her world ranking.

However, there has been little in her recent form that she is capable of pulling off what would count as an upset by beating Putintseva.

She did beat Sofia Kenin in Madrid, but that should be put in the context of the American failing to make it out of first round of qualifying for the French Open this year.

Another second round defeat in Saint Malo followed, but that was followed by successive first round defeats, both in three sets.

The world number 682, Barbora Strycova beat her in Rome, whilst the Swiss player, Jil Teichmann, defeated her in Strasbourg.

Putintseva v Zanevska Prediction and Tip

This should be a straightforward victory for Putintseva against an opponent who has never been beyond the first round in Paris before, and has shown little signs in recent form that she is capable of improving on that record.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Putintseva to win: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
