Andrey Rublev v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in the 2020 Doha Open. Rublev had won that final to lift his first title of that season and third overall.

Rublev Made to Work by Djere

Not that we expected any less from Laslo Djere but Rublev would have hoped for a better start to the competition than he managed. It took him four sets and two hours and 30 minutes to come through his opening round match against Djere.

Rublev won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round of this year’s competition following on from his quarterfinal appearance at the French Open last year.

Having raced through the first set with two breaks of serves, Rublev looked to be in cruise control when he broke Djere in the very first game of the second. The Serb, however, retaliated with a break in the very next game and then again in the eighth game to level the proceedings.

In the third, it was Djere who went 2-0 up only to drop his serve twice before a decisive break in the fifth game of the fourth set laid the match out on a platter for Rublev.

He will hope to do a lot better than that in round two against an opponent who hasn’t had a lot of tennis under his belt this season.

Moutet Relieved with Cazaux Win

In an all-French battle, Moutet was also pushed to the fourth set but he came through to register just his second win of the season. It was also his first victory since returning to the courts following a bit of a layoff after the Australian Open.

Moutet was on court for nearly three and a half hours despite losing his serve just once in the entire match against Arthur Cazaux. Cazaux fought hard despite facing 16 break-points as he went on to save 11 of them.

It didn’t look like Moutet would have those many difficulties though as he raced through the first set with three breaks of serves. In the second, Cazaux improved his first serve percentage from 38% to 66% but was still broken once as Moutet took a two-set lead.

It was in the third set that Moutet was finally broke but was even more surprising was he failed to earn even one break-point.

Moutet quickly turned things around though by performing a role reversal in the fourth, breaking his opponent once while serving really well.

He will now hope to put up a bit of a fight against the world number seven.

Rublev v Moutet Prediction and Tip

While Rublev was tested in round one we think things would go a lot smoother for the Russian here as he can be expected to come through in three.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 10/11
