Diego Schwartzman v Nuno Borges Head to Head
While they have never faced off at the highest level, these two met earlier this year on the Challenger circuit and Borges had won that in straight sets.

Schwartzman Turns Back Time against Zapata Miralles
2-11. That was Schwartzman’s win-loss record on clay for the season before coming into this match.
No surprises then that against the seeded Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Schwartzman was a 6/5 underdog to win his opener.
Those odds lengthened considerably when he lost the first two sets, but three hours and 40 minutes later, Schwartzman had managed to perform an escape artist’s job, winning in five. The Argentine came through 1-6, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-0, 6-4 to reach the second round for the seventh successive time in this tournament.
This isn’t to say that Schwartzman is out of the woods yet – his ranking has fallen dramatically over the last 12 months thanks to his poor form and while his second round opponent might not be of the same pedigree as Zapata Miralles, the Argentine will know this will be a new match on a new day.

Borges Wins in a Photo-Finish
Things could have gone either way in his first round match but it was Borges who held his nerve in a thriller of a contest with John Isner, sending the 38-year-old American packing from what could be his final French Open appearance.
Featuring for the first time since the Houston Open, Isner had his chances to overcome his opponent but Borges scraped through to a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-6 (9) in match that lasted nearly four hours.
In the final set tie-breaker, Borges saw his 8-4 lead disappear in a jiffy and at 9-9, it could have gone either way. It went Borges’ way who in turn clinched his first ever win at Roland-Garros.
Before this, Borges had won just two matches on clay this season, making it to the second round at both Barcelona Open and Rome Masters. He is yet to win back to back matches at the highest level this year and faces a struggling former star against whom he can turn things around.
Schwartzman v Borges Prediction and Tip
Schwartzman might be a slight favourite here but there’s not much to choose between these two. Can expect both to win a set but for Schwartzman to go through.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Schwartzman to win: 8/11
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 34.5 games in the match: 5/6
