Shapovalov Thwarts Nakashima Comeback

Shapovalov had gone into his opening round match as an underdog with Brandon Nakashima starting out an 8/11 favourite.

Slightly over an hour and a half later, Shapovalov looked to have overturned those odds by winning the first two sets and at 3-3 in the third set, he had a break-point to overcome the Nakashima serve too.

The Canadian player missed that and then lost his serve at 4-5 to give Nakashima an outside chance of making a comeback. A charged up Nakashima broke Shapovalov yet again, in the eighth game of the fourth, to level things up but that’s where the American’s comeback ended.

The world number 32 then earned a couple of break-points in the fourth game, of which he converted one, saved one of his own in the seventh game before churning out the victory.

Can Shapovalov now make it two wins in two matches for the first time since the Australian Open?

Arnaldi Shrugs off Slow Start against Galan

Having entered the match as a 1/2 favourite, Arnaldi overcame a slow start to his first round match and clinched his second round berth with a four-set win over Daniel.

Playing his first ever match at the French Open, Arnaldi was on court for two hours and 20 minutes in his 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 victory over Galan.

Arnaldi did face a whopping 13 break-points but managed to save 10 of them including seven in the second set after he found himself down a set. He was broken once more in the fourth set but he broke back twice in a row from that point to ensure his win.

This follows a clay court season to remember for Arnaldi who won the Murcia Challenger title and made the second and third round respectively at the Barcelona Open and Madrid Masters.

Can he take the attack to the struggling Shapovalov?
