There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Djokovic has won every single time. This will be the first meeting on clay though.

Djokovic Eases Past Kovacevic

There was a semblance of a fight shown by the 114th-ranked Aleksandar Kovacevic towards the end of his opening encounter but Djokovic proved to be too good for his American opponent.

The world number three clinched a straight set win in nearly two and a half hours to help himself to a second round berth.

After running through his opponent in the first two sets where Djokovic did not face a single break-point, he frittered away the two times he was up a break in the third set. Kovacevic broke Djokovic in the sixth game the first time and then again as Djokovic served for the match at 5-4.

In the end, Djokovic was pushed into a tie-breaker which he claimed 7-1 to make the round two.

It does look like Djokovic’s elbow injury is behind him for now and he should not have a lot of problems coming into his second round encounter.

Fucsovics Takes to Four Sets by 122nd-Ranked Opponent

Hugo Grenier has never been ranked better than 95th in the world and entered this year’s French Open as a wild-card. Fucsovics would have been pleased to face an opponent of that pedigree and not surprisingly, he started off a 1/5 favourite.

Two sets into the encounter though, things looked they had gotten rather tight for Fucsovics, who ended up losing his serve twice in the second set.

With Grenier levelling the match by winning the second set, it could have gone either way but Fucsovics’ pedigree shone through as he won 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in over three hours of tennis.

This was Fucsovics’ third win on clay for the season after having played in six ATP tournaments on this surface. It speaks volumes about his record on clay and the way his season has gone too and facing Djokovic won’t be an easy objective here.

Djokovic v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

Djokovic shouldn’t have a lot of trouble here and again, a straight-set win looks the most likely result.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 29.5 games in the match: 5/6
