Karolina Muchova v Nadia Podoroska Head to Head

Podoroska leads 1-0, last beating Muchova seven years ago in the 2016 ITF Bertioga.

Muchova Upsets Sakkari

Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova handed Maria Sakkari yet another defeat on the tour – this one in the opening round of the 2023 French Open. Coincidentally, her last win over the Greek also came right here in Paris last year – but in the second round.

Muchova stunned the eighth seed 7-6(5), 7-5, to register her 20th win of the year. During this time, she has lost just seven matches and has already made up for her injury-stricken 2022 spell, which she closed at 11-12.

Now ranked #43, Muchova has had to take the 2023 tour cautiously on account of fitness. Perhaps, selective play has been a big reason for her resurgence.

The 26-year-old was a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells, Dubai, and Auckland. Most recently, Muchova also competed in the fourth round of the Italian Open.

A two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist and one-time Aus Open semifinalist, Karolina has clearly got plenty of potential and looks quite well-positioned for a deep run in the Paris Slam.

Podoroska Beats Pinochet

Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska beat Jessika Pinochet 6-0, 6-2 in the first round of Roland Garros.

A semifinalist here in 2020, Podoroska has since struggled to repeat that feat in any of the other majors – but she can’t be faulted for that. Like Muchova, the Argentinean, too, has struggled with injury concerns. She missed 10 months of action between 2021-22, resuming play only in the 2022 Wimbledon.

Since then, she has bagged the ITF San Bartolome runner-up trophy in 2022 and the title from Copa Oster Challenger in 2023. Nadia also reached the semifinal in a couple of other ITF events this season.

The 26-year-old is ranked World No. 103 and is 17-13 so far. Needless to say, most of her tennis practice this year has come in low-tier events.

Muchova v Podoroska Prediction and Tip

Muchova is clearly the odds-on favourite here. If Podoroska had more time to acclimatise herself to the trials of WTA events on the regular, then she would be better equipped to go head to head with the Czech. But as things stand, she she has visibly struggled to win of late – losing to many lower-ranked players like Laura Siegemund, Caty McNally, and Jaqueline Cristian.

Expect a smooth win for Muchova.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Muchova to win 2-0: 4/7
  • High-Risk Tip: Three sets: 3/1
