Svitolina Builds on Strasbourg Success

A winner of the Strasbourg Open earlier this season, Svitolina continued to exhibit the same form in her first round match here against Martina Trevisan.

In fact, she was at her punishing best as she raced off to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Trevisan in an hour and 12 minutes to seal her fifth successive victory of the tour. So dominant was her win that Svitolina did not face a single break-point in the entire match and rattled off nine games in a row at one point.

Trevisan tried to remain within touching distance of her opponent in the second set as she served to make it 3-5 but was broken for the fourth time in the match.

Svitolina hasn’t played a lot of tennis this year, having only recently returned to the sport following the birth of her child but there are signs already of her having found some of the touch from old.

Hunter Maintains Qualifying Form

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz was 9/10 coming into her opening round match against Aussie qualifier Hunter and for a while it looked like she could well be heading for a win.

Hunter, however, retaliated strongly after losing the opening set before completing the victory in three to make it to the second round of the French Open for the first time in her career.

In what was her eighth win on clay from the nine matches she’s played – including the ITF circuit and qualifying rounds – Hunter was on court for two hours and 11 minutes. And she was broken four times as well, having gone 4-2 down in the final set too.

The Aussie came back to first hold her serve with some difficulty but then broke her opponent to love before earning two match-points in the next game.

She went on to close out the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Can she now test out Svitolina?
