Ruud Easy Winner over Elias
Elias Ymer had made the main draw of this year’s French Open as a surprise qualifier having overcome Yannick Hanfmann in the final round but that’s where his journey ended. Ruud, who has himself been at the receiving end of some poor form in recent times, carved out a straight-set win over Ymer in the opener.
In a match lasting two hours and nine minutes, Ruud registered a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 victory to make it to the second round of a competition he had been a finalist last season.
A couple of break-points is all that he needed in the opening set before grabbing a 4-1 lead in the second. At that point he lost his serve for the first time in the match but came back quickly to break his opponent again and clinch the second set.
In the third, it was Ymer who went a break up only for Ruud to break him three times in a row and go 5-1 up. Ruud dropped his serve for the second time in the match but then broke again to finish off the contest.
Ruud should start off a heavy favourite in the second round too given his opponent’s inexperience and ranking of 129th.

Zeppieri Goes Past Bublik in Five
In a match that went on for nearly three and a half hours, Zeppieri was kept on the court for five sets by Alexander Bublik but he came through in the end. The world number 129th, who has never seen inside the top 100 of the rankings, overcame a two sets to one deficit to win in five.
After bagelling Bublik in the first set, Zeppieri was broken early in the second set and while he did break back, he looked to have lost his rhythm majorly. As a result his opponent grabbed the next two sets and looked like he was on his way to riding the momentum.
Zeppieri held on to his serve in the fourth set before breaking Bublik against the run of play in the ninth and serving out to love to level the proceedings.
He then saved two break-points to take the final set to 5-5 before he broke his opponent’s serve in the next game. Soon enough he had served it out to 15 to win his first main draw match of the season.
Ruud might just be a bridge too far to traverse though.
Ruud v Zeppieri Prediction and Tip
This shouldn’t cause Ruud too much grief with the Norwegian expected to win it in three.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 1/2
- Moderate Risk Tip: Under 30.5 games in the match: 5/6
