Tommy Paul v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these players and Paul has won both including one on clay on the Futures circuit in 2014.

Paul Easy Winner over Stricker

While Paul was the favourite coming into his opening round match against the 116th-ranked player Domini Stricker, there have been question-marks over his form on clay.

This can be seen from his record on this surface this season too, with Paul having lost four of his previous five matches on dirt at the highest level.

Which is why his straight-set win over Stricker would have given him some respite. The world number 17 was on court for an hour and 52 minutes in his 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 rout of his Swiss opponent.

An earlier break of serve is all Paul needed to grab the first set and while he dropped his serve in the second game of the second set, there was no looking back for him from that point onward. He broke his opponent thrice in that set and one more time in the third to clinch the match.

Things will get a lot tougher now though with Paul facing up to a player who has built a solid reputation on clay.

Jarry Crushes Dellien

Jarry had played in the final of the Geneva Open only three days prior to facing his first round opponent at the French Open here. And he won them both quite comfortably, beating Grigor Dimitrov to win the title at the former and routing Hugo Dellien in the opener at Roland-Garros.

Having climbed up to his career-best ranking of 35th in the world, Jarry registered his 18th win on clay for the season when he sent Dellien packing 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

He needed nearly two and a half hours though, but the good news was Jarry did not drop his serve even once despite giving away six chances. On the other hand, he had 15 opportunities to break Dellien and took four of them.

This was Jarry’s first ever win at the French Open and he will now be a favourite to double that count against a player who has struggled to get going on this surface in the past.

Paul v Jarry Prediction and Tip

Jarry starts off a favourite at 8/11, which to be honest are the best odds possible for his win here. Backing him to win in four.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Jarry to win: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 39.5 games in the match: 5/6
