Paolini Sends Sorana Out
Despite starting out a 9/5 underdog in her opening round match against Sorana Cirstea, Paolini found a way to hold steady and defeat her Romanian opponent in three sets.
Paolini was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 winner over Cirstea in a match that lasted two hours and 14 minutes.
Having entered the tournament on the back of a title win in a WTA 125 event in Florence, Paolini did not let that momentum die down as she saved four break-points including a set-point in the first set before grabbing the lead.
Cirstea is an experienced campaigner and successive breaks in the middle of the second set helped her get the equaliser but Paolini then found a way to stall her opponent’s momentum in the third.
She broke Cirstea twice in the first two games and while she lost her serve in second game too, a third break of serve in the fifth ended the Romanian’s stay.
Paolini will now have a solid opportunity to make it to the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

Danilovic Wins Ninth Match in a Row
After failing to qualify for both, the Madrid Open and Italian Open, Danilovic had opted to feature on the ITF circuit where she clinched a title in Madrid without dropping a set.
Less than two days later, he featured in the qualifiers of the French Open and continued with her straight-set winning crusade against Heather Watson, Yanina Wickmayer and Erika Andreeva to make it to the main draw.
And for the ninth time in a row, she routed an opponent in straight sets to make it to the second round here. It was also her first win in the main draw of an event since her third round appearance at the Australian Open earlier this season.
Danilovic was on court for an hour and 36 minutes as she carved out a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kateryna Baindl in the first round. She faced no real resistance from her opponent whom she broke a whopping six times in the encounter.
With that kind of form behind her back it’s no surprise there’s not much to choose between the two despite a difference of more than 50 spots in their rankings.
Paolini v Danilovic Prediction and Tip
Paolini is a slight favourite here at 5/6 but Danilovic has the game and the momentum to see this one out and make it to the third round.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Danilovic to win a set: 4/11
- Moderate Risk Tip: Danilovic to win: 1/1
