Fritz Routs Mmoh
It was always expected to be a straightforward start for Fritz against Michael Mmoh but it was only when he took to court did one realise the difference in the two players’ tennis pedigree.
Fritz needed just a shade over an hour and a half to hand Mmoh a 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 drubbing in their first round match and move to the round of 64 for the fifth time in a row at Roland-Garros.
Mmoh did not manage even one break-point in the encounter even as Fritz broke him seven times from the 16 chances he got. Fritz also won 32 of his 34 first serve points, while allowing Mmoh the luxury of just six points won off his second serve from 31.
He now takes on a 78th-ranked player who hasn’t done much of note on clay which allows Fritz to start off a heavy favourite in this encounter too.

Rinderknech Ends Veteran Gasquet’s Stay
Richard Gasquet has been around for nearly two decades and he used all of that experience to stop fellow Frenchman Rinderknech from running away with the match. Unfortunately for him, Rinderknech proved to be more resilient than him for the day.
Rinderknech, who had hit a career-high ranking of 42nd in the world at one stage, grabbed an evenly-fought first set before Gasquet broke him three times in the second set to level the proceedings.
In the third, it was Gasquet who earned the early break of serve but Rinderknech retaliated with three breaks from the next four service games to wrap up the lead. He then went 5-0 up in the fourth set and the writing seemed to be on the wall for Gasquet.
The veteran, however, isn’t one to give up that easily and he broke back twice, saved a match-point and pushed the set into the tie-breaker. This is where Rinderknech also showed he is cut from a similar cloth as he did not allow Gasquet’s stunning comeback affect his play, running away with the tie-breaker.
Fritz, however, will be a different kettle of fish for Rinderknech.
