Tsitsipas Has No Real Trouble against Carballes Baena

Roberto Carballes Baena has shown a bit of a turnaround in his fortunes, especially on clay in recent times. Up against the fifth-ranked Tsitsipas, however, he was stopped short in his tracks as the Greek number one cruised to a straight-set win over Carballes Baena.

After having been taken to four sets including a gruelling fourth set tie-breaker by Jiri Vesely, Tsitsipas had claimed he did not play at his best.

Against Carballes Baena, he looked like he had gotten back to high levels again although he might still want to tweak his game further as he takes on trickier opponents with each passing round.

Tsitsipas was on court for two hours and 19 minutes for his 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win and while he was broken twice, both those occasions came after he had himself taken a lead by breaking Carballes Baena first.

He shouldn’t have too much of a problem against Schwartzman either.

Schwartzman Blows Borges Away

It took Schwartzman a tad over two and a half hours and just three sets to send Nuno Borges packing in the second round of the competition.

And in doing so, Schwartzman managed to win successive matches in a tournament for the first time this season.

Yes, Schwartzman has seen an appalling run of form in 2023, having won five of the 21 matches he had played all year before coming into this year’s French Open. And despite been a clay-court specialist, Schwartzman was 2-11 on clay before this.

Which is why a hard-fought win over Bernabe Zapata Miralles from being two sets down and a 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-3 victory in the second round against Borges in the second makes it so much more relieving for the Argentine.

Schwartzman did lose his serve four times in the match but retaliated with six breaks of serves to ensure there was no Borges fightback. And while he will know he is up against it when he faces Tsitsipas, there will be a sense of shifting momentum for him.

Tsitsipas v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

This shouldn’t be too difficult of a challenge for Tsitsipas and we expect him to come through in straight sets despite facing the former world number eight.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 30.5 games in the match: 5/6
